Making the 1950 Slip

My experience making this slip.

VINTAGE RELEASES

I made the 1950 slip to wear under another vintage dress, McCalls 8374, a dress from 1951 (yes - it's in the queue to be adapted to a Vintage Release pattern!). The fabric I was using was a sheer pink chiffon and I needed a slip to wear under it. Since it was to be worn under a sheer dress, I opted to make the plain version with spaghetti straps. This was one of the first unprinted patterns I had used. Since the slip is pretty simple in construction, I did not run into any issues. I made bias tape for the neckline and slipstitched it in place. I also hung the slip for a couple of days before hemming as I did not want the hem to stretch and peek out below the skirt. The pink charmeuse I chose was slippery - but I managed.

It's a really nicely fitted simple slip, though much looser that the powermesh ones I usually use under tighter garments. I think it works well with the vintage look of the dress. I'm not sure I need another slip like this, but I recommend it as an easy to sew vintage look.
