I love the neckline on this dress but feel I have too much hip to pull off the horizontal tucks in the skirt. Since I really loved the overall feel of the dress, I decided to replace the horizontal tucks with vertical pleated side panels. I kept the upper hip area smooth and added the pleated panels below.

I made the version with the sleeves and added a waistband between the bodice and skirt because I am very long waisted and that works well for me. I also decided to install a snap placket instead of using a zipper to retain the period feel. I made the dress from a lovely burn-out pink chiffon which I think works well. Since I was using a sheer fabric, I also made up my 1950 Slip pattern in silk charmeuse to wear underneath.

The dress was surprisingly easy to make. The biggest issue I had was pressing the pleated panels. I also added a fabric covered buckle to the belt. I did not add shoulder pads but think I might make them up in the future. This dress is very easy to wear and I feel lovely in it. I highly recommend the pattern.
