I love the neckline on this dress. The way the front panels create the off-the shoulder wide neckline is very flattering. I made my version in a hydrangea embroidered mesh fabric. I inspired by this photo and fell in love with the fabric. I searched all over and was finally able to find it online but there was only a limited amount available, so I needed to leave out the godets. The skirt is still flattering without them but not as dramatic.
Since I had a slimmer skirt, I opted to go with a simple slip underneath rather than making the lace version. The addition of a petticoat helps with the silhouette. I used a plan black fabric for the facings and installed an invisible zipper.
For my version, I cut individual flowers out of the fabric and sewed them in place around the neckline. My embroidered netting was too delicate to make a belt, so I opted for a purchased black one.
Though I took some liberties with the pattern, I think it is still true to the opulent feeling of the original. I feel absolutely gorgeous wearing it.
