This is the first pattern I created. I was inspired by a vintage pattern in my collection. I wanted to make a knit version that was easy to wear and comfortable. After creating the original pattern, I made it up in a black and white print with a solid waist section. I embellished the waist seams with black beads. I really loved wearing it and thought that others would too. I digitized my pattern pieces and began to make a multi-size pattern. Wow! I didn't stop to think how difficult it would be to grade these diagonal seams. It took many mock-ups until I finally got the proportions right.
My second dress was made using my digital pattern. I used a stretch silk charmeuse in 2 complimentary patterns. I added beading to the waist panel and lined the dress with tricot. Though there were no differences in making the dress, the fabric did not have as much give and I need to wiggle a bit to get the dress on. Once on though, it is just as comfortable as before.
I then a drafted a number of friends to try out the pattern for me. They came up with some wonderful designs Including a fabulous reverse applique version. I made a third dress using a beaded, screen printed panel for the waist section. Don't be intimidated by the seaming, the pattern goes together easily. It incorporates my favorite burrito finishing technique for the neck and armholes and the lining continues through the waist panel for a clean finish.
