I am really fond of this chicken stripe fabric. It makes me smile. I have made two dresses out if the print. The first was a Style Arc’s Agnes dress which has a draped panel in the front. What was I thinking? This is a border print fabric! I used a knit from Spoonflower and pieced the border along the shaped drape. It took quite a bit of maneuvering to get it to lie correctly. I also inserted a row of the chickens at the bust line. It’s a fun dress.

For my second attempt I made a vintage sheath dress, Simplicity 1301, out of cotton sateen. I just used the border along the bottom of the dress. I think it was very successful. The dress sewed up nicely and the stripes matched perfectly. I lined the dress to make it a bit more comfortable to wear. I think I would prefer it to be a bit longer, but I did not measure correctly and was unable to lengthen it because of the border print. Next time.

I think the chicken border adds a bit of fun to any design and the texture on the stripes give the whole print a bit of interest.
