My American Sewing Guild chapter was hosting a Marfy pattern sew-along and I decided to join in. I had been wanting to make something up with my "Iced Tea" print and found a pattern that I thought would work well. I had the design printed on Spoonflower's Celosia Velvet and used some black velvet I had on hand for the bodice. If you are not familiar with them, Marfy patterns do not include instructions, just the line drawings and the pattern pieces. They also come in European sizing. The skirt for the dress was simple, but I needed to make a muslin for the twisted bodice. I only needed to tweak slightly to get a perfect fit.
Since I was making a long velvet dress, I decided to add a beaded panel to the front. I developed a design that mimicked the print and extended it into the bodice. I also created an additional beaded element to add at the neckline. I ran out of one color of sequins a third of the way through the front panel and couldn't find them anywhere so I needed to buy a different color of the same style sequin and start beading all over again. It took a long time to complete the beading but I think it was worth it!
