Making the Venetian Skirt
When you purchase a Venetian Skirt panel from Spoonflower, you will receive a yard of the fabric of your choice with the design printed across both pieces. Each size has been engineered so that the designs will match perfectly with a 1/2" seam allowance. Unfortunately, that does not mean that it is always easy - it may take a couple of tries due to the fabric slipping or pulling while you sew. You should line your skirt for the cleanest construction.
Cut out your skirt panels. Mark the front and the back. The back panel is slightly larger than the front one.
Use the panels as a pattern for your lining. I usually use nylon tricot. Mark the front and the back.
Sew up the side seams of the skirt with a 1/2" seam allowance, taking care to match the print at the seams.
Hem the skirt. A 1" hem is suggested but use what looks good on you.
Sew up the lining side seams with a 1/2" seam allowance and hem the lining at least 1/2" shorter than the skirt.
Join the top of the skirt to the top of the lining, right sides together. Turn and press top seam.
Cut a piece of 1" to 1-1/4" elastic to fit comfortably around your waist plus 1".
Stitch a casing line down from the top seam that is wide enough to fit your elastic.
Using a seam ripper, open a side seam in the lining so that you can thread the elastic into the casing,
Sew elastic together and hand stitch lining closed - Your skirt is now ready to wear!
